The webinar to the International Day of the Native Language was held on February 14, 2019 at the initiative of the UNESCO Chair «Continuing Professional Education of the XXI Century» at Ivan Zyazun Institute for Pedagogical Education and Adult Education named after Ivan Zyazun.
The theme of the webinar is «Preservation of Linguistic Diversity and the Promotion of Multilingvism in order to realize the goals of sustainable development».
Moderator of the event was a full member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Academician, Secretary of the Department of Professional Education and Adult Education of the Adult of NAPS of Ukraine N.G. Nichalna who outlined the contradictions and prospects of native language education as the basis of multilingualism in Ukraine.
During the webinar there were online discussions on which the scientific-practical recommendations for modern education in the following areas were discussed and concluded:
- linguistic identity in the third millennium, the priorities of the mother tongue and multilingual education in Ukraine and in the world;
- transformation of the concept of «literacy» in the modern socio-cultural context;
- Centers of Languages and Cultures in Ukraine: experience and development perspectives;
- language and culture of indigenous people – a determining factor in the intellectual and creative development of the younger generation;
- European experience of multilingual education and prospects for the Ukrainian school;
- popularization of multilingvism among the teachers of institutions of higher education – a condition for ensuring their leadership in civil society;
- cross-cultural component of teacher’s professional development;
- linguistic component of the civic competence of the future teacher;
- creation of the language and culture environment in educational institutions of Ukraine as a factor in the development of the national youth outlook.
Yushchuk I. P., professor, head of the Department of Slavic Philology and General Linguistics at Kyiv International University, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, an Excellence in Education of Ukraine, a member of the National Union of Writers of Ukraine, a member of the Central Board and the Main Council of All-Ukrainian Society of «Prosvita» named after Taras Shevchenko accentuated attention at the native-language duties.
The problems of the functioning of the state language in the socio-cultural space of Ukraine were summarized in the report of the current member of the National Philharmonic Society of Ukraine G. G. Philipchuk, who identified the national-language potential of the Ukrainian language, native language education in the terms of modern priorities of the language policy of the state.
Galchenko S. A., Ph.D. in Philology, Deputy Director of Taras Shevchenko Institute of Literature of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, a winner of the State Award in the field of education in 2017 presented the publication of a new series «Artists on the sight».
Stetsenko K. V., Chairman of the Board of the Kyiv «Prosvita» focused on the linguistic identity in the third millennium.
The experience of the organization of the reading space in the gymnasium-boarding school was presented by Khodatska O., a methodologist of the gymnasium-boarding school №13 in Kyiv, a teacher of the Ukrainian language and literature, a methodologist-teacher, methodologist-correspondent of Borys Grinchenko IPPO CU.
Semenog O. N., Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Ukrainian Language of Sumy State Pedagogical University named after A. S. Makarenko, a participant of the project Erasmus + Jean Monnet module highlighted the legislative, linguodidactic, lingvopersonologic aspects of the Ukrainian language education of a future specialist.
About 80 scientists, educators, lecturers, teachers, young researchers who discussed the issues of multilingual and linguistic education in the context of sustainable development within the framework of such sections participated in the work of the webinar: development of the language as the basis of national culture and a factor of sustainable development of society; the theory and practice of language and multilingual education in Ukraine and in the world; development of linguistic and communicative competence of different categories of adult population.

Irina Gorbatenko: The students of the Faculty of Foreign and Slavic Philology were invited to the unusual, interesting, useful webinar for professional development. Such outstanding academicians, linguists as G. Filipchuk, I. Yuschuk, S. Galchenko, K. Stetsenko, O. Khodatska violated the outstanding problems of the Ukrainian language and culture through such online communication. The students were able to ask the questions to scientists who were surprisingly sincere and open to communication. It was very interesting to work with them, this is the first and unique experience of participating in the webinar.
Lena Kovtunenko: The students of the Faculty of Foreign and Slavic Philology were invited to the unusual, interesting, useful webinar for professional development. We have learned a lot of interesting and meaningful information, the problems of the development of the Ukrainian language at the present stage and why it has passed at all. We were also able to ask questions that interest us. Friendly atmosphere, sincere and intelligent people, fascinated by the beauty and delicacies of our language ... What else do we need, philologists?
The webinar was very entertaining and cognitive, and of course we are waiting for new pleasant meetings, events and conferences.

Natalya Gromova: Appropriate reviews of the students about the webinar «Rhetorical and multilingual education in the context of sustainable development» indicate the importance and relevance of the language and linguistic policy in the modern youth space. Involving philologists in such events contributes not only to their professional growth and formation, but also to the promotion of their mother tongue in society. Sensitive and meaningful questions to the well-known not only Ukraine but also world-wide scholars, confirm the high level of students’ training. It's really a historic moment ...
