On June 10, 2020 a class «Linguopersonology of a Research Mentor» was held for the postgraduate students in the field of training 01 Education/Pedagogy in the framework of the doctoral seminar «Research Mentorship Culture» (4 hours).

The following issues were discussed at the lesson: an academic language personality; an idiosyncrasy of a scientific mentor; scientific dialogue – dialogue of individuals; functions of language behavior of a research mentor. The purpose of the classes were to outline the essence of the concepts «an academic language personality», «idiosyncrasy of a research mentor», the functions of language behavior of a research mentor, specifics of a scientific dialogue; to develop the need for normative use of scientific language for successful presentation of research results; to promote the improvement of academic writing skills (create author’s scientific texts of various genres), formation of scientific language culture of the researchers, normative use of scientific language in oral and written, dialogical and monologue forms, formation of a high level of communicative culture.

During the classes the report of Dmytro Budyansky, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Chair of Pedagogy of Sumy State Pedagogical University named after A.S. Makarenko on the topic «The suggestion of the pedagogical voice as a component of rhetorical culture».  It was about the importance of a teacher’s voice, especially in quarantine and distance learning.

The lecture by Yasakova Natalia, Doctor of Philology, Associate Professor of the Chair of the Ukrainian Language of the National University «KYIV-MOGYLA ACADEMY»  under the title  «When a speaker does not say «I»: types of transposition» was discussed. The event was organized by еру colleagues from the Chair of Ukrainian Studies at University of Warsaw.

The reparation for the classes also took into account online classes with Margarita Nadutenko (30.04.20), who heads the All-Ukrainian Center for Vocabulary ULIF NAS of Ukraine; she acquainted the participants of the webinar with the main activities of the Ukrainian Lingua-Information Fund, described the electronic dictionaries, developed by the Ukrainian Lingua-Information Fund of NAS of Ukraine and offered a set of exercises for their use by the language teachers.

On June 5, 2020 a class «Research Mentorship in Reforming the Ukrainian Education on the Basis of  Europeanness» was held for the postgraduate students in the field of training 01 Education/Pedagogy in the framework of the doctoral seminar «Research Mentorship Culture».

The following issues were clarified at the classes: scientific and pedagogical mentoring as support for young teachers of professional skills; scientific and pedagogical mentoring as one of the components of adaptation and socialization of a novice teacher; specific qualities of a scientific mentor: originality, democracy, dialogue, research, leadership, social orientation, cooperation; mentors’ functions.

In preparation for the classes the participation of the postgraduate students in the online seminar «How to write analytical materials» on the page The International Renaissance Foundation (IRF) of the Team «Initiatives for the development of analytical centers of Ukraine» of IRF, webinars «SAIUP on the couch», Academic Integrity Promotion Project in Ukraine – SAIUP, implemented by the American Councils for International Education (Eugene Nikolaev «University Policy to Prevent Student Plagiarism» (on April 22, 2020) https://saiup.org.ua/novyny/materialy-vebinaru-polityka- universytetiv-iz-zapobigannya-studentkomu-plagiatu / was taken into consideration. The following issues were considered: the results of some studies of academic plagiarism of students in European countries; causes of plagiarism; measures that can and should be taken by the administrations of Ukrainian universities to promote the values of academic integrity; resources and competencies needed by the trainer to successfully combat plagiarism in student work; «Balancing the load during distance learning: the mission is feasible» (on April 23, 2020, the head of the Center for Quality Assurance in Education and senior lecturer at the Chair of English at the National University «Kyiv-Mohyla Academy»  Olga Bershadska discussed the specifics of distance learning in freelance, interaction: teacher/students during distance learning and control  (cooperation and control formats) at the webinar.

On June 4, 2020 a class «Research Mentorship in Reforming the Ukrainian Education on the Basis of Europeanness» was held for the postgraduate students in the field of training 01 Education/Pedagogy in the framework of the doctoral seminar «Research Mentorship Culture». The topic was planned for 4 hours.

The following issues were clarified at the class: mentoring is one of the components of continuous professional development (continuous professional development – CPD); mentoring culture in Ukrainian and European universities; scientific mentoring practice for effective research and teaching: European, national and institutional dimensions.

The preparation for the class took into account the participation of the postgraduate students in the online meeting of the Department of Content and Technology of Pedagogical Education and the Department of Theory and Practice of Pedagogical Education «Trends in the development of pedagogical education in Ukraine» within the framework of the scientific-practical conference of Ivan Zyazyun Institute of Pedagogical Education and Adult Education of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine «Trends in the development of adult education in Ukraine and abroad» (More about the mentioned event on http://ipood.com.ua/novini/tendenc-rozvitku-pedagogchno-osvti-v-ukran/; in the international scientific-practical online conference «Ensuring the quality of higher education in the European Union»  (April 15, 2020 Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University based on the results of the implementation of the Module «Quality of higher education and expert support of its provision: Ukraine’s Movement to the European Union» of the «Erasmus +: Jean Monnet» program. On June 1, 2020 the doctoral seminar «Research Mentorship Culture» for the postgraduate students in the field of training 01 Education/Pedagogy began. The schedule of the classes and methodical materials for the classes (workshops) were published on the project website (see the Training Courses page). The first class was devoted to the topic «Phenomenology of scientific mentoring: the genesis and modernity of European and national experience».

The essence, types, functions of mentoring, retrospective analysis of the origins of scientific mentoring (academic mentoring) were outlined at the classes; the essence of mentoring in science and education, the values of the institute of mentoring, the criteria of scientific mentoring were focused on as well.

While preparing for the doctoral seminar on May 14-17, 2020, the postgraduate students carried out the project «My Scientific Mentor» within the framework of the events dedicated to the Days of Science at Sumy State Pedagogical University named after A.S. Makarenko.

The postgraduate students participated in SAIUP on the couch webinars, the SAIUP Academic Integrity Project in Ukraine, implemented by the American Councils for International Education («Academic Integrity: From Theory to Practice» (Victor Drozdov, Head of the Educational and Methodological Department, Associate Professor of the Chair of Ukrainian and World History and Culture of  Izmail State University of Humanities).
