On April 16-17, 2019 the V International Conference «Innovative Development of Higher Education: Global, European and National Dimensions of Changes» was held within the framework of the project Erasmus + Jean Monnet Module «Europeanization of doctoral studies in the field of education: interdisciplinary and inclusive approaches» in Sumy State Pedagogical University named after A.S. Makarenko.
The organizers of the conference are the departments of pedagogy and management of education and pedagogy of higher education of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Pedagogy and Psychology of Sumy State Pedagogical University named after A. S. Makarenko.
The co-organizers of the conference are traditionally the scientific partners of the named departments, namely Institute of Pedagogics of NAPS of Ukraine, Institute of Pedagogical Education and Adult Education of NAPS of Ukraine, Ukrainian Association of Educational Researchers, Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University, Sumy State Regional Administration, Sumy Regional Institute for Postgraduate Pedagogical Education, Berdyansk State Pedagogical University, Poltava National Pedagogical University named after V.G. Korolenko. The conference took place.
The conference brought together over 300 participants from nearly 40 Ukrainian and foreign academic institutions, whose representatives participated in the discussion of various aspects of innovative development of higher education that took place at the national, European and global levels.
The greetings to the participants of the conference were addressed by the rector of Sumy State Pedagogical University named after A. S. Makarenko, doctor of pedagogical sciences, professor Yuriy Olegovich Lyannoy, who emphasized the importance of similar academic initiatives for the practical implementation of the constitutional provisions concerning the strategic course of our state for gaining full membership in the EU; Director of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Pedagogy and Psychology of Sumy State Pedagogical University named after A. S. Makarenko, candidate of pedagogical sciences, associate professor Svitlana Mykolayivna Kondratyuk highlighted the achievements of the University in the field of European studies and its contribution to the cooperation of our state with the European Union; Vice-rector on scientific and pedagogical work of Sumy State Pedagogical University named after A. S. Makarenko, doctor of biological sciences, professor Vitaliy Illich Sheiko emphasized the importance of the conference for a detailed study of various aspects of Ukraine’s rapprochement with the European Union.
At the section meeting of the conference «Innovations in Doctoral Studies in Educational/Pedagogical Sciences: Ukrainian, European and World Experience» A. A. Sbruiva, doctor of pedagogical sciences, professor, Head of the Department of Pedagogy of Sumy State Pedagogical University named after A. S. Makarenko, called on scientists specializing in European studies to further active collaboration. She emphasized: «Participation in grant programs is an integral part of the professional activity of the teacher of the modern university, which gives an opportunity to practice in the best universities in Europe and the world, take part in representative international scientific events, develop cooperation with domestic and foreign colleagues in the implementation of innovative programs, integrate into the European academic community, create networks of like-minded people in the common cause of reforming the education system. Excellent opportunities for the professional development of teachers of Ukrainian universities are provided by numerous EU grant programs, united under the direction Erasmus +, and in particular its component Jean Monnet».

Within the framework of the conference there was also an open discussion of the participants of the project «Europeanization of doctoral studies in the field of education: interdisciplinary and inclusive approaches» direction Jean Monnet EU program Erasmus +. All the participants emphasized that during the last decade Jean Monnet projects have played a more prominent role in improving the quality of doctoral studies in philosophy in Ukraine. It has also been noted that the Ukrainian academic community has already accumulated considerable experience in implementing these projects, since more than 70 projects have already been realized or is carried out, and its participants have successfully integrated into the Jean Monnet Direction Global Network of projects, which marks the 30th anniversary of its existence in 2019. At the same time, separate emphasis was placed on the challenges,the strategic of which is the continuation of activities in the relevant direction after the completion of financing of projects from the EU budget, rather the interaction between the projects in Ukraine and the lack of communication of their results to the public.
The following areas of innovative development such as organizational and pedagogical support for innovative development of high pedagogical education in Ukraine, the EU and in the world became the most urgent areas of discussion at the conference; strategies and innovative technologies for the training of high school teachers; professional training of managers of innovative development of higher education in Ukraine, EU and in the world; psychological basis of innovative development of higher education; optimization of innovative education and processes of self-realization of creative potential of a personality; innovations in the training of specialists in preschool and primary education in the context of the implementation of the concept «New Ukrainian School»; innovations in the educational activity of educational institutions in the context of the implementation of the concept «New Ukrainian School»; innovative technologies of professional training of social workers in modern society; innovations in the training of specialists in corrective and inclusive education.
