On December 28-29, 2020, a number of significant events took place in the scientific life of the university community, which are important not only for our university, but also for the further development of national and European theory of education.

On December 28, 2020 two dissertations were defended:

• the dissertation of Professor of the Department of Music and Instrumental Training of Teacher of Kharkiv National Pedagogical University named after G.S. Skovoroda Olga Kuznetsova on the topic «Theory and practice of methodical preparation of future music teachers for educational work with students», presented for the degree of Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences in the specialty 13.00.02 - Theory and methods of music education. Scientific consultant is Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Alla Volodymyrivna Kozyr, Head of the Chair of Theory and Methods of Music Education, Choral Singing and Conducting of the Faculty of Arts named after Anatoly Avdievsky of National Pedagogical University named after M.P. Drahomanov.
• the thesis of the lecturer of the Chair of the English language practice of Sumy State Pedagogical University named after A.S. Makarenko Sydorenko Olena on the topic «Development of non-state higher school of Ukraine in the late XIX-th - early XX-th centuries», presented for the degree of candidate of pedagogical sciences in the specialty 13.00.01 - General pedagogy and history of pedagogy. Supervisor is Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Korzh-Usenko Larysa Viktorivna, Associate Professor of the Chair of Education Management and Pedagogy of Higher School of Sumy State Pedagogical University named after A. S. Makarenko.

On December 29, 2020 the dissertation of the candidate of pedagogical sciences, associate professor, associate professor of the Chair of Education Management and Pedagogy of Higher School Kozlov Dmitry Alexandrovich on the topic «Theoretical and methodical foundations of innovative culture of the future head of general secondary education in the process of master’s training» presented for the degree of Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences in the specialty 13.00.04 - Theory and Methods of Vocational Education took place. Scientific consultant is Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Alina Anatolievna Sbruieva, Head of the Chair of Pedagogy of Sumy State Pedagogical University named after A.S. Makarenko.

The defences of all these dissertations were held successfully. The specialized academic council and the opponents of the dissertations noted the high quality of the presented works and the level of scientific competence of the applicants for scientific degrees.

On December 23, 2020 on the basis of the Chair of Pedagogy of Sumy State Pedagogical University named after A.S. Makarenko in cooperation with the Department of Foreign Systems of Pedagogical Education and Adult Education of the Institute of Pedagogical Education and Adult Education named after Ivan Zyazyun the IV-th All-Ukrainian scientific-practical seminar on the topic «Comparative Studies in Teacher Education and Adult Education» was held.

The main directions of the seminar:

• Development of adult education: global and national dimensions.
• Europeanization of doctoral programs in the field of educational theory. The experience of implementation of Erasmus + Jean Monnet Module Project at Sumy State Pedagogical University named after A.S. Makarenko.
• Teacher training in the domestic and international educational space.
• Educational reforms and innovations in a globalized world.

The lecturers and postgraduate students of the Chair of Pedagogy took part in the meeting of the scientific-practical seminar on pedagogical comparative studies. The event took place online on the ZOOM platform.

Presentation

In Doctoral House in Educational and Pedagogical Sciences a significant event took place. It was the defence of Bian Lulu’s dissertation on the topic «Formation of speech culture of the students from China in the process of professional training», submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the field of knowledge 01– Education/Pedagogy, specialty 011 – Educational, pedagogical sciences.

Alina Anatoliyivna Sbruieva, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Pedagogy, Sumy State Pedagogical University named after A.S. Makarenko chaired the meeting of the Specialized Scientific Council.

The most significant results of the research, personally obtained by the dissertation are the following: the component structure of speech culture of the students from the People’s Republic of China in unity of normative, communicative, ethical components is developed; the model and a method of formation of speech culture of the students from the People’s Republic of China in the course of professional training as a part of principles, pedagogical conditions (development of students’ stable motivation to study the Russian language on the basis of the introduction of a special course «Fundamentals of the formation of the speech culture of foreign students»;  use of IT for the formation of speech culture of students from China in the process of professional training; organization of extracurricular work of foreign students on the formation of speech culture in the process of professional training); the stages and relevant forms, methods and means of training students from China are proved;  the methods of forming the speech culture of the students from China in the process of professional training by creating favorable conditions for learning the value of linguistic, psychological, pedagogical and methodical fundamentals in a multicultural language and educational environment are improved.
